Land of the Kiwis A runner in New Zealand

About Me

Real World Freshman

Who are you?

Hi, my name is Macklin Chaffee and I am a recent graduate of Williams College with a bachelors in Computer Science. See happy college grad to the right.

Why is this happening?

Glad you asked. After a summer of turmoil regarding my life's direction, a few surprises, and an "aha" moment, I find myself pursuing my collegiate sport of running to whatever end I can manage. They say you're only young once. or only live once. or something.

As autumn descended upon New England I knew I was going to have to avoid the terrible northern winter in order to maintain high training morale. My cousin, Cary Chaffee, presented a perfect opportunity when he blazed the way to Wellington, NZ earlier in the month. Our winter is their summer. It's almost too easy! Plans fell together wonderfully and now Cary and I find ourselves in one of the most ruggedly glorious countries on earth.

The air is warm, the scenery epic, and I can't help but get excited about running on a new trail when I wake each day.

What about the blog?

I suppose I prefer the term "personal column". Really, it's a way to keep a little journal, plot my running/training progression, inform future NZ travelers, and keep my family happy knowing I'm still breathing when they go to bed.

How are you finding the time?

Dunno. Sun goes down at 9:30. Cousin sleeps for 10 hours a night. If I don't put up pics now, IĀ guaranteeĀ it will never happen. Worth it I guess.

When?

2009/2010. So if you're reading this for research in 2014, the info's likely to be dated... My cousin has a 2004 travel guide and it's led us astray several times...

Where to start?

From the Beginning ... At the End
